The Dalai Lama [T Gyatso] said: 'Of all the modern economic theories, the economic system of Marxism is founded on moral principles, while capitalism is concerned only with gain and profitability.'
That's wrong. The Free Market- at its most basic level - is founded on God's 8th commandment - private, personal property rightfully exists and ought to be protected - your stuff is yours and not mine to take. There is a tremendous moral force here.
Do I have the right to put a gun to your head and demand money for my kid's schooling, clothing, medication? Can I hire someone else to do it for me with my money or my vote? What if you've got money to spare? Is it lawful to steal CD's from Walmart because the Waltons are the richest family in America?
Moreover, if we can't trust citizens to be properly charitable with their own money, how can we trust the politicians that those citizens elect to do any better?
We must think clearly and Biblically about these things - God says: reapers are not to scrounge for the spilt grain [charity by way of oportunity is commanded], but on an individual level. He also says: if a man doesn't work for himself, he doesn't deserve to eat; and: when a man refuses to provide for his own people and family, he is, practically speaking, hellbound.
