Here's me next to what I believe is one of the deadliest mushrooms in America: a huge Destroying Angel. The boys and I spotted this one while driving down an old country road. Smooth, stark-white cap w/ fine white, non-attached gills, long stem skirt rising from a bulb at the stipe base; white spore print; no bruising or discoloration when cut/split [I checked the pieces in the trashcan from yesterday and they're all still eerily, pale white.]. It is said to make a delicious last meal. Implications for our hamartiology?
